Introduction of Mime Max Formitchev by Karl Ewan, Sprint 8:00 PM
Max Formitchev |
Max Formitchev
is an internationally
recognized Deaf mime artist. Max worked for Cirque du Soleil for six years as
their lead clown and for 20 years as a solo artist. He has performed in more
than 30 countries worldwide. He has more than 30 years experience in acting,
teaching, mime, physical comedy, and clowning. We are so lucky to have him performing
for us at DSA Seattle 2019!
Born in Russia, Max started performing in Moscow at age 13. In
Russia he studied the classic mime techniques of flexibility, strength,
physical comedy, and expression. He was frequently the only Deaf performer in his
group, and graduated at the top of his class with an Master of Fine Arts degree
in Theatre. After joining the famed Zakutok Theatre in Moscow, Max toured and
performed throughout the world including in Russia, Spain, Germany, Taiwan,
England, the United States, and Canada.
In 1989 Max and his performing troupe was invited to “Deaf Way I” in
Washington, D.C. This experience of Deaf empowerment completely changed his
life. Two years later Max decided to defect from Russia to move in Vancouver,
BC.
One special highlight of Max’s career was being invited back
to Washington D.C. in 2002 for “Deaf Way II” in 2002 as a solo performer where
he thrilled an audience of over 7,000. Max has appeared in a variety of
television shows, many television commercials, and several films. He still lives in Canada today.
